Brushes

Painted Treasures of Denver currently sells a variety of brushes in three basic lines:
  • Heirloom Traditions oval head brushes
  • Generic bristle ring brushes (made in Czechoslovakia)
  • CLING ON! synthetic filament brushes (made in Holland)

Heirloom Traditions Brushes

We sell the primary line of Heirloom Traditions paint and wax brushes.  These are premium, SYNTEC Fiber Oval Tapered Brushes with beaver tail handles.

The large HTP brush measures about 8½ inches in length, including the contoured 5¼ inch beaver tail handle.  The oval head measures 1½ inches in diameter with 2½ inches of dense, firmly epoxied hogs hair bristles.

Each brush head has hand-crafted chisel tipped bristles, making it appropriate for both paint and wax application.
  • Heirloom Traditions oval head brushes are available in 3 sizes – large, medium, and small.

European Ring Brushes

We sell a line of ring brushes imported from Czechoslovakia.  These brushes have circular (as opposed to oval) heads and round (as opposed to beaver tail) handles.

The large ring brush measures about 10½ inches in length, including the 7½+ tapered round handle.  The head measures about 2 inches in diameter with about 2 inches of exposed bristle length.
  • Our European ring brushes are available in 4 sizes – large, medium, small, and extra-small.
  • Although very affordable, these are quality brushes.  They also can be used for both paint and wax.
  • NOTE:  Our online shopping link is available ONLY for Heirloom Traditions Paint products.  These European ring brushes are NOT Heirloom Traditions products and cannot be ordered via our online shopping link.  They are available only at our retail location.

Tips for CLING ON! Brushes
  • Let your CLING ON! absorb some water before using it for the first time.  Spin the handle between your hands and it's ready for use.
  • Be sure to use a brushkeeper in which you can let your CLING ON! hang so the filament tips will not touch the bottom, but only get "their feet wet".
  • See to it that your CLING ON! always stays wet and refresh the water regularly.  This way your brush will stay in perfect shape for a long time.
  • While working outside, the wind and sun can make waterborne paints dry in very quickly.  Therefore, always keep within reach a can of water in which you can rinse your brush every now and then.  Because the CLING ON! is very quick and easy to clean this will take you little time.  Just a small cleaning effort and you will be able to proceed next time with a clean and supple brush.

The CLING ON! is made of a specially engineered mixture of the best synthetic filaments of Dupont De Nemours; in various lengths and diameters and tipped and flagged; fully locked in epoxy cement to prevent loss of hair, with a stainless steel (nickel for P series) ferrule and a painted beechwood handle.

The main component of the mixture is a very high-quality nylon filament, solid round tapered. The durability of this filament is 5 to 9 times higher than hog bristles and up to 1.5 times higher than most polyester filaments. The shape preservation (the so-called bend-recovery), even more enhanced by the special dyeing technique, is unequaled.

Dyeing the filaments also increases the cleanability, because the paints can hardly stick to the filaments. Of great importance is the way you keep and maintain the brushes (please read the CLING ON! tips).

The nylon filament is very smooth and supple and its flagged tips provide a "velvetlike" touch and a smooth and flawless finishing. It retains its stiffness in water and returns perfectly in its original shape.

This filament is resistant against almost all chemicals and solvents and withstands high temperatures without losing its characteristics permanently. Only after a long duration of exposure to extreme conditions or chemicals does some degradation occur.

The second component of the mixture, a high-quality polyester filament, has been mixed in to provide the right stiffness or resistance. This, slightly shorter, filament (also solid round tapered) is stiffer and also retains its stiffness and shape when immersed in water.
